Two Treatises of Government Essay Example for Free

Two Treatises of Government Essay John Locke was born in 1632 and died in 1704. Locke is among the most in fluential polictical philosophers of the modern period. John Locke argued that the people have rights like the right to life, liberty and property. Locke was one of the founding fathers who were in favor of the right to revolt. The second amendment is opposed by the founders today. The american revolution its self is one of the most persuasive testimony illistrating the right to bear arms. The right of Revolution is the right or duty of the people of a nation to over throw a goverment that acts against their common interests. The concept of the right of revolution was also taken up by John Locke in two treaties of goverment as part of his social contact theory. The first treatise was aimed squarely at the work of another 17th-century political theorist, Sir Robert Filmer, whose Patriarcha (1680, though probably written in the 1630s) defended the theory of divine right of kings. Locke claims that Filmer’s doctrine defies â€Å"common sense. In Lockes Second Treatise on Civil Government Locke implies that all equal human beings will choose to obtain goods that will inevitably lead to conflict. Human beings must be governed by this natural law of morality before entering into a society. Locke proposed a radical conception of political philosophy deduced from the principle of self-ownership and the corollary right to own property, which in turn is based on his famous claim that a man earns ownership over a resource when he mixes his labour with it. Government, he argued, should be limited to securing the life and property of its citizens. John Locke, who writes from the view of a realist, argues that the government is established by a social contract, although they have limited powers, they can be modified by the authority that conferred them. Lockes second Treatise of Government fundamentally places sovereignty into the individuals hands. Locke, argued state of equality rather than war. Locke believed that in order for human beings to protect their property as well as themselves, they must join together and enter into a social contract, developing an executive power with authority. When the governing bodies begin to protect themselves instead of their people, Locke states that the people must resist and revolt, otherwise known as the â€Å"right of rebellion† where individuals should resist AND even attempt to replace the government. . 382 Revolution is no stranger to the united states. American revolution is how our country.

An Analysis Of Performance Management Strategies Business Essay

An Analysis Of Performance Management Strategies Business Essay Performance management (PM) includes activities to ensure that goals are consistently being met in an effective and efficient manner. Performance management can focus on the performance of an organization, a department, employee, or even the processes to build a product or service, as well as many other areas. In both definitions it is clear that performance management is process of continuously measuring performance of each individual in organization to achieve set goals. To check that organization is performing in right way, we use performance management strategy or system to measure performance of specific department or employees or to measure performance of whole organization. Performance management talks about important and broader issues of organization. It gives procedures to organizations to achieve their goals. Performance management links all people, teams and individuals associated with business. Performance management should include: Performance management throughout the organization for individual, team and increased productivity of organization. Development is also very important for improved performance. Unless there is no development plan for employees in organization there will be no performance improvement. Organizations should ensure that employees are encouraged and motivated to fulfill their responsibility. How It Works? As performance management is very key part of organization to make organization work effectively. So this strategy should be structured properly. There should be a performance management framework to operate it effectively and efficiently in organization. Tools of Performance Management Performance Reviews To measure performance management there should be regular reviews of individuals performance. There should be performance review meetings to evaluate performance management. The meetings should be properly managed and planned to measure. Learning and Development Most famous and successful organizations give importance to employee development for increased performance of organization. With the help of performance reviews employees can be encouraged to look for deficiencies in them. And it should be responsibility of organization to provide learning and development schemes. Organizations which have high emphasis on individuals learning have emphasis on performance improvement indirectly. Measurements Organizations which want to measure performance management effectively, there employees or individuals should know that on what criteria or through which procedures their performance is going to be measured. Organizations should measure performance on fairly and honest basis. Pay In many organizations performance management is related with performance related pay. Performance related pay is important tool in many organizations to motivate employees through performance related pay. PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT STRATEGY OF DERBY CITY COUNCIL I have taken the performance management strategy of DERBY CITY COUNCIL as example to evaluate their strategy. I am going to evaluate their performance strategy of 2007-2010. Objective The basic objective of performance management strategy of DERBY CITY COUNCIL is to manage performance across council and the steps they will use to achieve their goals. They have described everything in their strategy that what they are going to achieve and how they will achieve. Importance of Performance Management As from definitions it is clear that performance management strategy is used to make organization more effective and to engage every employee in development of organization. So DERBY CITY COUNCIL has taken the importance of performance management very seriously as well. Performance management strategy make council to look for current status of their work, monitor for problems and issues arising, how to solve them and plans to implement their strategy. Performance management strategy is important to DERBY CITY COUNCIL for number of reasons. Improving Services Council is always here to improve services for people. So thats why performance management strategy is very important to council as they want to continuously improve services for people. They are focused on achieving right goals according to needs and expectations of local people and community. And their strategy helps them to look out their progress in achieving those goals and to look for any issues occurring in their current plans or not. And according to council their strategy is main key to improve their services continuously for people. Motivating staff For DERBY CITY COUNCIL their performance management strategy is not only to achieve goals like to improve services of people. For council effective management strategy is that which motivate their staff to understand them what is their role in this strategy, how much they are involved in achieving goals set by council for local people and whether their staff is getting fit into framework set by council to achieve their targets. Thats why council has described in their workforce Development Plan the scheme called Achievement and Development to stay connected with staff and promote their learning and to motivate them to fulfill their individual duties to achieve organizational goals. Meeting Government Expectations Performance management strategy is important to council because they want to meet government expectations. As performance assessment which is annual assessment by local authorities to measure performance or achievements of council in last year. So to meet government expectations performance management strategy is important to them. Demonstrating Value for Money Council tax is always concern for local residents, and they want to see that while council is doing or improving services for them or not. So this strategy is important to them to make a clear vision in local community about their value of money and council is continuously working for improvements. Purpose of Strategy For DERBY CITY COUNCIL, purpose of their performance management strategy is to Establish strong planning and performance framework to continuously improve services. To implement performance management system to measure performances of individuals and of organization. To achieve their set goals and targets. To be classified as four star council by meeting government expectations by continuously improving services for people. For DERBY CITY COUNCIL effective performance strategy not only requires good strategy but also organizational culture which supports this strategy by encouraging staff to improve their services. Performance Framework of DERBY CITY COUNCIL Their performance framework includes community strategy, corporate plan, business plans, team plans and individual plans. In framework council used community strategy to set the long term visions and targets for local community. Its a long term strategy to improve services which can be renewable. The Council corporate plan is to support community strategy how they will focus on continuous improvements and key actions to be taken for improvements. Business plans in performance framework are there to describe how each section of council work for improvements. Team plans will demonstrate employees to develop their understanding that how they will individually or in teams contribute for improvements. For council performance framework has to be clear, accurate and timely planned. What Council is Aiming to Achieve? Through their strategy council want to create an environment where every individual knows his/her contribution towards improving services and feel motivated and encouraged to manage their own performance effectively. Council Main Principles Council target is based on five principles which lead towards improvement. Balanced measurements For every process three elements are always important like inputs, outputs and outcomes. According to council as outcomes are always important for end users but they want balanced set of all measures means inputs, outputs and outcomes in their strategy to improve services. Strong Decision Making For council strong decision making is very important to them. As it is their one of main principle that decisions maker should be confident enough in information which he/she is using for decision making. They should use data of good quality to make decisions. The data or information which is used for decision making should be accurate, strong and relevant. Clear The performance information must be clear and should be accessible to all users. Goal Oriented Information should be goal oriented, focusing on key goals and targets to be achieved. Individual role Every individual must know his/her role in managing performance and key actions towards improvements. How Council will achieve his Vision? In this section council will deliver his strategy to achieve their goal. For council there are some sections which should be fulfilled to make their strategy successful. Role of Leader in Culture of Performance Management A performance management culture is climate or environment in which organization is working. Through performance management culture every employee and individual knows the values and vision of organization and their own roles to achieve those goals for organization. It encourages and motivates individuals to act in their role properly and perform their duties. As it is important for everyone to manage performance culture, but it should be lead by effective leader who has strong leadership skills. Like in performance framework of DERBY CITY COUNCIL there should be effective leader to lead corporate or business plans. Strong and confident leaders know what kind of performance is required and have ability to clearly communicate every individuals role towards improvement. They make clear to everyone that these areas are to be focused or improve and whose role is required or important in this issue. Advantages: Managers or leaders set clear goals and expectations across all employees which are continuously monitored. With performance measures there are continuous appraisals. DERBY CITY COUNCIL has culture where excellent performance is praised and shared across council. Clear Roles and Responsibilities To make their strategy effective council has described every individuals roles and responsibilities in their performance management strategy. Some roles are described below: Corporate Directors: Take operational responsibility of key actions to be done by council. They continuously review performances. They made actions required regarding data quality for decision making. They ensure that performance is under consideration in department. Performance Board: This board monitors that performance management strategy is implemented properly or not. Heads of Service They identify opportunities for improvement in strategy or performance management system. They monitor underperformance and their responsibility is to take necessary actions when required. Cabinet Their responsibility is to deliver council priorities. They review performance every three months and take actions if performance is not managed properly. They have also responsibility of measuring either value for money is achieved or not. Council Their role is to provide clear vision and to make corporate plan accordingly. They approve all budgets. They ensure every achievement. Audits and Accounts Their role is to maintain the internal environment controlled and managed. All Staff Know what their roles and contributions are required by council to achieve goals and improvement in services. Internal Audit They have to assess overall procedure implemented for producing performance management. They check procedures which are high risk. Advantages Everyone knows what performance framework is and know that improving services for local people is vision of council. Every member plays an important role in monitoring and managing performance management strategy. Continuous and Strong Performance Information System Council performance information is regularly used by group of people, employees, individuals and stakeholders. The Council use performance eye as main tool to analyze, collaborate and reporting performance information to all of them. The system is accessible to all staff so thats why information is clear to all staff. Advantages: Performance eye tool includes all visions of performance management including value for money. Wide use of performance eye tool by all members, employees and stakeholders. While developing performance eye data quality is taken seriously. Local people get informed about council performance and progress in achieving their goals. Continuous Assessment of Performance Measurement of performance honestly and actively is very important part of performance culture. Council has taken this point in consideration as well to take effective actions against underperformance, ensuring right actions to be done to bring performance back to action. Council considers their employees to be best source for their success and their development is necessary for councils future. It is very important to agreeing objectives with employees, giving them appraisals on their achievements and addressing their development needs in right and set path. Outcomes: Council continuously manages poor performers and rewards good performers and work for their development. Learning and Development Learning forms the basis of development of performance managed culture of organization. Here learning is about collecting information about what plans has worked and what has not worked. Organizational performance board is there to improve learning and to view which actions are necessary. Training and development is always important for exploring knowledge of every individual in every organization and at all levels. With performance management strategy a separate training plan is implemented as well in relation with performance for support and development of individuals. Outcomes: Sharing of knowledge and learning between all departments of council and other stakeholders. With help of different plan, more structured learning with performance management strategy. Main Steps in Delivering our Strategy Council has delivered their performance management strategy in the form of short term, medium term and long term goals. Short term Goals Short term goals are those goals which are to be achieved in 1 year or shorter period of time. Improved areas of underperformance through strict and strong action planning and benchmarking. Council does benchmarking to compare his results with successful results achieved by other same type of organizations. To look at their planning and way to achieve targets. Training of performance tools to all staff to improve performance managed culture. It is short term goal of council to train all staff to how to use performance tool to stable the culture of organization. Council wants to achieve this goal in short period of time to improve performance for community. Communication of performance information with local community. Council wants to achieve this target in of communicating its progress to local community, and to tell them how they are progressing, how they are working , how they are converting resources into improvement for community. So there should be clear and transparent communication with local community. Celebrating the achievements. Council wants to celebrate and wants to tell to local community that they are achieving their goals and proved increased performance. Medium Term Goals Medium term goals are goals which are to be achieved in period of 1 to 2 years. Review of performance eye It is target of council to review performance eye tool according to council and future needs. After review, if council requires further changings, needed to be done effectively. Improvements in Learning and Development Learning and development scheme should be reviewed half yearly or yearly to manage performance effectively. If performance management is not working effectively it can be due to no learning and development as well. So its council target to review their learning and development plan continuously. Long Term Goals Long term goals are those goals for council which they want to achieve in period of three years. Change to Performance Management System Implement changes to performance management system to work it more effectively and issues which has affected the performance management of organization. Changes to Individual Performance Council wants to implement changes to every individual performance to make them more effective for organization. It is a long term goal for council to check individual performance management to check who needs learning and development. Conclusion Performance management strategy is used to measure performance of individual, team and or organization as a whole as well. With the help of this strategy organizations measure how effectively their employees as individual working and how much efficient is organization working. With the help of performance management strategy Everyone came to know that how much they are contributing towards organizational goals and targets. Everyone ensures that what is organization expecting from them and they has skills and support to achieve this or not. Effective communication increases in organizations between all employees. Managers encourages individuals to do best they can and opportunities of learning and development. Performance management strategy of DERBY CITY COUNCIL has describes some main principles which are important for them in their strategy. They have given importance to: Being clear and transparent to your staff about what is performance. Understanding to employees how they can improve performance management culture. Every individual should be focused on his own contributions needed by organization. Decision maker should be confident and strong enough in decision making. Decision maker should have good quality of data. Recommendations As I have evaluated strategy of DERBY CITY COUNCIL. They have given every information about how they will implement their strategy and what are important key roles to them for effective strategy. One thing which seems wrong to me in their long term plan is about changing of individual performance in long term plans. In my point of view, individual performance should be monitored continuously and sudden plans should be implemented to change in their individuals performance. If they need some improvement learning and development plan should be applied effectively.

Designing An Effective Juvenile Delinquents Rehabilitation Center

Designing An Effective Juvenile Delinquents Rehabilitation Center The vision is to design a secure state of the art rehabilitation center. To eliminate and decrease the juvenile delinquency in society by helping juveniles in restoring their sense of self worth so that they can become a productive individuals of the social order and to get them rid of the feeling of remorse because of the offense they have committed. The aim is to design a center which would provide them such opportunities of living a normal disciplined life and a chance of learning technical education, in order to reduce crime as a whole in the society leading to social and human development. The goal with juvenile detention is often rehabilitation rather than punishment. Who is a juvenile? A young person, a child who is not fully grown or developed. Marked by immature behavior. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/juvenile DISTINCTION BETWEEN A CRIMINAL AND A JUVENILE DELINQUENT: If children commit crime in their younger age of life, deviate from their normal behavior of patterns, they are called delinquent not criminals. Criminals are those who violate the common law of society, beyond the age handled by juvenile courts. Kaurser perveen, offense among youth in urban population and its impact on family, 2007 WHAT IS JUVENILE DETENTION? When people who are not old enough to be held in jail or prison, they often go to a juvenile detention center. This is a prison like atmosphere for people under the age of 18. A juvenile detention facility must be safe and secure for the occupants of the facility. PRESENT SCENARIO: Throughout Pakistan, thousands of children are locked inside police cells or overcrowded jails, victims of a justice system that treats the very young much the same as adults. Kids as young as seven can spend years behind bars before the courts have even decided if they are innocent or guilty. And despite the fact that around half Pakistans population is under 18, the country has only one juvenile court. Elsewhere, children are trialed in adult courts (BBC NEWS | South Asia | Tragedy of Pakistans prison children). Most imprisoned children are held in company with adult prisoners, where they can get easily involved in illegal activities, drug dealing, drug addiction, sexual harassment, sexual assault, rape and physical abuse etc. These youthful offenders later on become adult criminals, if otherwise they are left uncontrolled and unlooked for. Kaurser perveen, offense amoung youth in urban population and its impact on family, 2007 Children spend years of their lives in miserable conditions in cells filled with the stench of human feces eating unhealthy and unhygienic food and being forced to do labor. In 1st July 2000, a better legal system was hoped for children when Pakistan introduced the Juvenile Justice System Ordinance (JJSO) for the protection of children who come into conflict with the law. Amongst other things, it defined the age of a child as someone under the age of 18, it set out guidelines for granting of bails, for the establishment of special juvenile courts, set out guidelines for the arrest and legal representation for children and it prohibited certain forms of cruel treatment and the death penalty on children. But once again, the rights of children in Pakistan suffered a major setback when in December 2004 a Lahore High Court judgment revoked the Juvenile Justice System Ordinance (JJSO), because it found it to be impractical, unreasonable and unconstitutional. Juvenile courts that were set up under the JJSO were to be abolished and children were now to be tried once again under the same system as adults. http://www.ansarburney.org/childrens_rights-prisons.html need of the project: Economical factors involve promoting crime in Pakistan such as rising poverty, increasing inflation, broken families, Religious discrimination, poor schooling, Drug addiction, Child abuse and neglect etc. Children cannot make their own decisions; they are usually influenced by the people and environment around them. These factors make them involve in illegal activities. The youngsters in this age have a delicate mind. They are indecisive and are mostly governed by emotions and sentiments. Their mind, aptitudes and thoughts have no perfection and endurance. That is why they are supposed immature and inexperienced and so they are probably not to be called criminals but as delinquents. According to Holy Prophet Three categories of persons are immune from the operation of law: a sleeping person until he is awake a minor until he/she is major A lunatic until he is sane. Islam terms the minors as innocents. They are not supposed to commit a crime. If innocents have committed a crime it is treated as an offense not a crime, so they should be treated mildly by a separate court of juveniles cases. In overcrowded Pakistani jails juveniles lodged in the company of hard core criminals, where they might become adult criminals. There is a need to provide a separate juvenile rehabilitation center instead of keeping them in adult prisons. In this way offenders may be controlled rehabilitated and reformed as the early stage to prove a useful member of the society instead of being a potential criminal. Kaurser perveen, offense amoung youth in urban population and its impact on family, 2007 It is the mind of the child being affected by sociological issues which determines his behavior. In order to change this behavior there is a need to bring back their self confidence and reduce the negative delinquents behavior. Creating a constructive change in there thinking, activities and over all life. OBJECTIVES: The aim is to propose such a platform that would recommend something constructive for delinquents to do or learn and be capable to fight for better lives. Illiteracy and lack of technical education is also one of the big issues within our society. These issues would be addressed through architectural design. In prison there is a necessity to motivate them where delinquents learned such technical skills and to be the part of crime free society. That can empower them to lead productive, crime free lives when they return to their communities. According to U.S. Bureau of Justice Assistance, these kinds of services should be present to make them productive member of society. Balanced Education Character building through religious support Vocational/Technical Education Counseling Programs Psychological/Psychiatric Counseling Family Counseling Employment Counseling Health and Nutrition AIDS Prevention Counseling Youth Alcohol and Drug Treatment Youth Violent Offender Treatment To accommodate these services spaces would be designed in rehabilitation center with the provision of relevant architectural design for crime prevention. ISSUES TO BE ADDRESSED: During research the issues found in exiting juvenile cells are that They are over crowded and congested. Occupants are filled up more than space available. Poor ventilation. Bad hygiene and sanitation facilities. The cells are usually small and confided with poor facilities for lodging and dining. All these issues would be addressed through design, developing healthy, social and living spaces for juveniles. Explore best possible architectural solutions for rehabilitation center that will lead to a positive society. Provide sustainable and economical solutions for all above mentioned spaces, creating a juvenile rehabilitation prototype for future implementations. Security measures metholody: The research methodology would be done by case studies of existing juvenile detention facilities e. g. Adyala jail Rawalpindi, interviewing people associated like researchers on juvenile delinquency, non government organization working for child prisoners child psychologist, child physiatrist, juvenile delinquents, parents, jail management, studying and observing requirements for the juveniles. The literature that would be helpful in the research of the project will be mainly focused on the issue of juvenile delinquency, judiciary system of juvenile courts, juvenile justice system ordinance, child psychology and development, sociology, human behavior and psychological impact of detention on juvenile. As an individual, architect cannot resolve this kind of critical social factor but being a part of the society one can contribute for the betterment of the society. Society is not all about building sky scrapers, market complex and Convention centers while our little children are imprisoned like animals. The space planning, orientation, color, texture, room sizes and landscapes go beyond than just being beautiful.

Caste systems are a necessity in any world, and without hierarchies there would be no order and control. One can say that this hierarchy is usually accompanied by some form of oppression, because with one person having a higher level of power, such as in the government vs. the people, there is always tyranny. In order for any society to run smoothly, there has to be domination, which is typically from the government. The basic idea of caste systems throughout the world is to divide human species into different groups based on physical or behavioral differences. The caste system originated in India and is about a â€Å"hierarchical socioeconomic organization of society that evolved around India's ancient civilizations†, and later spread around the world, â€Å"a new way of life brought with it a need for governance and order, defense and conquest, learning and trade, laborers and artisans. Roles began to be defined and people were classified according to their function, occupation and economic place in society.† (â€Å"Caste System in India.†Anand & Kulbir, 2009.) The Hindu system divided their people into different castes, which showed their levels of dominance as well as inequality. †¨ Much like the caste systems in India, George Orwell's’ 1984 and Aldous Huxley's Brave New World both portray human worthiness based on caste systems, a system which only benefit s the higher authorities within their communities. The totalitarian control in both Brave New World and 1984 can be seen through an oppressive government which controls and strips their people of rights to freedom and prosperity. In brave new World oppression is seen through the use of soma, a drug given to the people to help them cope with life and the societal restrictions, the depr... ...(for "father" was not so much obscene as–with its connotation of something at one remove from the loathsomeness and moral obliquity of child-bearing–merely gross, a scatological [since it rarely occurred] rather than a pornographic impropriety); the comically smutty word relieved what had become a quite intolerable tension† (Orwell.151) The word ‘Father’ clearly had a huge affect on the witnesses because it was almost foreign in their everyday language. Overall some individuality must be suppressed in order to insure stability and ‘happiness’ in a society. Caste systems are also set up too provide organization and hierarchies, and when these two aspects of a community are practiced oppression is nearly inevitable. Brave New World, and 1984 both support the idea that the less fortunate are left to defend themselves in a world where meritocracy is strongly executed.

Freedom of Expression Must be Upheld in America Essay -- Argumentative

Freedom of Expression Must be Upheld in America It's the amendment all United States citizens know: the first. This amendment is so huge that there is even an organization dedicated to protecting the rights guaranteed by it called the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Some people nowadays disagree with the idea that freedom of expression is guaranteed, believing only freedom of speech and religious practices are express rights given by the constitution in the first amendment, and that the term "freedom of expression" is too broad an interpretation. Art, clothing, and other forms a person uses to express themselves can be severely limited some people argue; however if they were to take a look at some of the important events in the world's history, they would see that people, if they are not given the right of freedom of expression, don't express their opinion in a pacifistic manner. The Vietnam War is a perfect example of this; it shows many different ways of freedom of expression and how, if suppressed, the can get ugly. For instance, when people were peacefully protesti...

Benefits of being a Vegetarian

Why does one become a vegetarian? Is it because of the health benefits, animal rights, or maybe something else? Although animal activists, religious reasons, and money reasons are a large reason why people choose to become a vegetarian, health factors are also a large reason why people chose this lifestyle. Today, six to eight million adults in the United States do not eat meat, fish, or poultry, according to a Harris Interactive poll commissioned by the Vegetarian Resource Group, a nonprofit organization that disseminates information about vegetarianism (Harvard, 2009).Everyone has it in their mind that vegetarians are so much healthier than meat-eaters, but is it really true? Why would cutting meat out of one's diet really make that much of a difference? Vegetarians do tend to lead a healthier lifestyle, because they plan meals intently, making sure their meals contain all of the vitamins and nutrients they need.According to Betty Kovacs, a registered dietitian, â€Å"Most America ns of all ages eat fewer than the recommended number of servings of grain products, vegetables, and fruits, even though consumption of these foods is associated with a substantially lower risk for many chronic diseases, including certain types of cancer† (Kovacs, 2009). Vegetarians take greater care into planning meals to make sure they are getting the correct amount of vitamins and nutrients. However, is that the only perk? Digesting all of the vitamins and nutrients one needs? No, it's not. Research shows that becoming a vegetarian has many health benefits such as lower cancer rates, lower obesity rates, and lower heart disease rates. Documentation shows many different studies that have been conducted that prove people who do not eat meat are much less susceptible to get cancer, have heart disease or high blood pressure and they are much less likely to be overweight.Harvard Health Publications states, â€Å"Hundreds of studies suggest that eating lots of fruits and vegetable s can reduce the risk of developing certain cancers, and there's evidence that vegetarians have a lower incidence of cancer than non vegetarians do† (Harvard, 2009). While this is true, it is much more likely these statistics be true if one eats the right amount of vegetables and fruit and do not only eat junk food. What a person eats is everything. These statistics won't be true if the diet consists of candy, cheese pizza, or any other junk food. This is also considered â€Å"vegetarian,† but it's not healthy. It is important to lead a healthy lifestyle if one chooses to become a vegetarian or not. Almost all cancers, can be prevented with regular consumption of fruits and vegetables. Foods such as calciferous vegetables (cabbage family), herbs, and fruits have cancer-protective photochemicals such as flavonoids, carotenoids, ellagic acid, sulfide compounds, isoflavones, isothiocyanates glucarates, phenolic acids, phthalides, phytosterols, saponins, and terpenoids among others. These chemicals work as antioxidants that help rid the body of harmful cancer-causing molecules (Benefits of Vegetarianism, 2006). Eating the right amount of fruits and vegetables will definitely lessen chances of cancer, but strictly cutting meat out of the diet will do wonders as well. According to a study published by the British Journal of Cancer Research, â€Å"A study was done of 61,566 people who scientists followed over 12 years.During this time, it was found that 6. 8% of meat eaters (2,204 of 32,403), and 4.0% of vegetarians developed cancer (829 of 20,601)† (McVeigh, 2009). They found that 180 meat eaters developed blood cancers, while only 49 vegetarians developed the diseases. They found the risk of being diagnosed with cancers of the stomach, bladder and blood was significantly lower in vegetarians than in meat eaters as well (McVeigh, 2009). These numbers tell it all! 1,375 less people developed cancer because they cut meat out of their diet. Even if on e cannot cut meat from their diet completely, eating a significantly less amount will still help one's health.According to The Guardian, â€Å"Two years ago, the World Cancer Research Fund found a link between red and processed meat and bowel cancer and recommended that the average amount of meat eaten should be no more than 300g a week. In Britain, the current meat intake is about 970g a week for men and about 550g a week for women† (McVeigh, 2009). So many people are eating way too much meat. People have it in their mind that eating so much meat is good because it's packed full of protein. That is most certainly not the case. These types of stereotypes about eating meat are what cause statistics like the ones stated.Protein and other nutrients can be absorbed by eating many other things other that meat. â€Å"In 2005, the Epic study, funded by the Medical Research Council, Cancer Research UK and the International Agency for Research on Cancer, concluded that eating just tw o portions of meat a day – the equivalent of a bacon sandwich and a fillet steak – increased the risk of bowel cancer by 35%† (McVeigh, 2009). Most people eat at least two portions of meat a day, some even eat three! People are not educated in the sense of meat portions and the consequences one can face after making the same mistake over and over by eating too much meat.On a diet free of meat, one of perhaps the greatest health benefits can happen, which would be reduced heart disease risks. Cholesterol levels are greatly increased by the digestion of meat. â€Å"'Fatty red meats and many processed meats are high in saturated fat, which raises LDL (bad) cholesterol and increases risk of coronary heart disease,' says Dr. Rachel K. Johnson, a spokesperson for the American Heart Association and professor of Nutrition and Medicine at the University of Vermont† (Deusen, 2012).Vegetarian diets are also low in saturated fats, which are common in meat. Cholesterol and saturated fats are the major causes of heart disease. This is because they clog the inside of the blood vessels over time. This leads to heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular diseases. â€Å"Vegetarian diets that have abundant sources of fiber, such as the ones found in carrots, beans, and apples, can help in lowering cholesterol levels that might have been built up over the years, adding years back on to lives† (Shanti, 2009).According to Seven Common Vegetarian Health Benefits, â€Å"Fruits, nuts, whole grains, and vegetables have flavonoids that have some biological properties and other vegetarian health benefits that are responsible for reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. They are antioxidants and they protect LDL (bad) cholesterol from undergoing oxidation, effectively inhibiting formation of blood clots in the arteries and other blood vessels. The flavonoids also have a hypolipidemic effect and an anti-inflammatory effect† (Benefits of Ve getarianism, 2012).So by eating more fruits and vegetables and cutting meat out of the diet, chances of  heart disease are greatly reduced. Many studies have shown how much eating meat can increase one's chances of getting any type of heart disease. One study in particular published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, showed that eating large amounts of meat (e. g. a small steak every day) also increased the risk of death from cardiovascular disease (Deusen, 2012). In another large study, â€Å"a combined analysis of data from five prospective studies involving more than 76,000 participants published several years ago — vegetarians were, on average, 25% less likely to die of heart disease† (Harvard, 2009).Another vegetarian health benefit is that vegetarians have lower blood pressure compared to those who eat meat, especially red meat. This is because vegetarian diets are low in salt. Meat has high amounts of cholesterol, saturated fat, and salt. Salt has been iden tified as the main cause of high blood pressure and hypertension. High blood pressure also occurs when blood tries to flow faster due to obstructed blood vessels. The obstruction is usually caused by a build up of cholesterol ingested from eating meat (Benefits of Vegetarianism, 2006).Cholesterol is only found in animal foods, so vegetarian diets are completely cholesterol free, reducing the chances of high blood pressure, strokes, and heart disease tremendously (Thompson, 2011). Adults and children who follow a vegetarian diet are generally leaner than non vegetarians. This may be because a vegetarian diet typically includes less saturated fat and adds more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, which are foods that are more filling and less calorie dense (Zeratsky, 2007). According to Brown University, â€Å"Vegetarian diets are usually lower in fat and higher in fiber† (Brown, 2010).Fiber fills you up more quickly than fat and it keeps you feeling fuller longer. Vegetarians are more likely to eat less and better food. According to a study conducted from 1986 to 1992 by Dean Ornish, MD, president and director of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute in Sausalito, California, found that overweight people who followed a low-fat, vegetarian diet lost an average of 24 pounds in the first year and kept off that weight 5 years later. They lost the weight without counting calories or carbohydrates and without measuring portions or feeling hungry (Vegetarian Times, 2012).Why do people lose so much weight by cutting meat out of their diet? Meat is full of saturated fat, which is not good for a person. It is also full of sodium (salt), and preservatives. These things can make one bloat and gain weight like crazy. According to Woman's Health Magazine, â€Å"A large-scale 2010 study from Imperial College London found that those who ate about 250 grams a day (the size of one half-pound steak) of red meat, poultry, or processed meat gained more weight over fiv e years than those who ate less meat, even if they consumed the same amount of calories overall† (Deusen, 2012).Eating meat has been proven to increase chances on developing a few unpleasant health factors or diseases. Research shows that eating meat does increase the chances of cancer. Statistics have shown that vegetarians are less likely to develop any type of cancer, especially blood cancer, breast cancer, and bowel cancer. Eating a lot of fruits and vegetables have also shown that the risk of developing cancer is less likely to happen if one is ingesting these. Fruits and vegetables contain cancer-protective chemicals that help prevent cancer. These chemicals work as antioxidants that help rid the body of harmful cancer-causing molecules (Benefits of Vegetarianism, 2006). It has also been shown that eating less or no meat reduces the chances of developing any type of heart disease. It also lessens chances of having high blood pressure or a stroke. Meat is full of saturated fat, salt, and cholesterol. Cholesterol is the number one reason why people have heart disease or a heart attack. Cholesterol blocks arteries to the heart, causing a heart attack.By not eating meat, one will not be ingesting cholesterol, saving yourself from heart disease. Obesity rates drop when it comes to vegetarians. Vegetarians plan meals accordingly, so all of the nutrients and vitamins are accounted for. Meat is also full of saturated fat and salt. These both are well-known for making people gain weight. Many studies have shown how much more likely someone is to be overweight if they eat meat versus if they do not eat meat. Scientists have done many studies proving these claims to be true. The documentation that has been provided does show that eating meat does increase chances of cancer and heart disease and obesity rates are higher. If everyone cut meat out of their diet, not even all the way, these disease statistics would drop dramatically. Diets actually improve when mea t has been cut out because it forces one to think about nutrition choices. Fruits and vegetables are more thought about and the body gets the nutrients and vitamins it needs and deserves. The body will no longer be punished by trying to digest the fat, sodium, and cholesterol that has been forced into it.

The idea is to provide accommodation services to locals and tourists during peak seasons but in a unique way, that is our services will be based on outdoor activities. During peak seasons, especially the winter season, it is really difficult to get a place to stay in Cox’s bazaar as most hotels and motels are booked by tourists. As a result, many people are una ble to spend their holidays in Cox’s Bazaar just because they could not find a place to stay. This is where we want to take the opportunity to capitalize on the situation and provide accommodation services which is going to be much cheaper and affordable for the tourists and other potential local customers. As the set up cost of the venture is Low, we can take the opportunity of cost leadership thus making our business profitable. The business: Description of venture The New camp we want to identify it is a camping site that we plan to bring in for the initially in our country. During peak seasons, it is hard to get a place to stay in Cox’s bazaar as most hotels and motels are booked by tourists. As a result, many people are unable to spend their holidays in Cox’s Bazaar just because they could not find a place to stay. So we want to use this opportunity to take advantage of on the situation and provide accommodation services that is going to be affordable for the tourists and local customers. The set up cost of the venture is low; we can take the prospect of cost leadership as well as profit seeker. The purpose of our business is to provide outdoor accommodation. In order to do so we need to have our own land but since it is very costly to have our own land, we decided to lease the land from the government.Currently to start the business we will take the lease a land which area is 3 bigha at Laboni point, Cox’s Bazaar. Our estimated budget is 30000000 taka. So we need to do the following activities to start the business: ? Lease the land. ? Land development ? Recruit Management employees ? Buying tents of various types – starting off with 60 tents ? Hiring security guards, helpers/care takers ? Chefs ,assistants & lifeguards ? Administrative officers in charge of supervision ? Equipment and utensils Logistics & other Developments Vision & Mission Vision Statement: Our vision is to promote and encourage outdoor activities for f amilies and friends and to become the number one camping resort in Bangladesh. Mission Statement: Customer satisfaction is our top priority and we want to make sure every customer that we will have will be satisfied with our products and services. We want to achieve this feat by providing top quality services by ensuring healthier environment, quality food items and spacious tents, outdoor activities within a much cheaper package. Market AnalysisAlthough marketing in tourism sector is competitive, the lifestyle changes created by modern living continue to fuel its steady growth. So competition in this particular sector is increasing day to day in perspective our country. Market segments: Here for our business we divide out market segment according to demographic segmentation that includes age, gender, income and social class. |Age: |Here we are targeting specially certain level of aged people like| | |children’s, teenagers, adults (18 – 45). |Gender: |Our products ar e purposeful for both male and female gender. | |Income level: |We will not provide such products which is not very much | | |luxurious as well as that not appeal directly to consumers on low| | |incomes.Such incomes level customers whom income level is | | |reasonably priced in terms of our products & services. | |Social Class: |For this portion we will choose specially upper and middle class | | |people. | Target Markets & Customers: The market for new camp product cover large area of diverse populated groups. The New Camp is considering under tourism industry and it will be a medium size industry. This business is starting as a partnership or joint venture business. The main goal of th is business is to provide tourism related outdoor facilities for friends and families with in local & foreign tourists. As we are stating these sort of business for the first time in perspective of our country in a sense the market will be monopoly. But in other sense here there are lot hotels and motels providing almost same facilities so we can call the make as well as oligopoly. If we are going to start our business in Cox’s Bazaar for New camp there are many competitors specially the hotels. But primarily competitors are Hotel Sea Palace, Hotel Corel reef, Hotel Holy day and Sea Hill Guest House. Now individual analysis of each competitors is very complex because on might have one step ahead in one factor and another might have one step ahead in another on the other hand the total description of each competitors will be very lengthy. To make this analysis more fruitful we develop a table where the primary 4 competitor’s names are mentioned with some key factors. New Camp as a base for comparison, the table is given below: Name |New Camp |Hotel Sea Palace |Hotel Corel Reef |Hotel Holy Day |Sea Hill Guest | | |[pic] |[pic] |[pic] |[pic] |House | | | | | | |[pic] | | | | | | | | |Factors | | | | | | |Target customer |Middle, Upper class. | |Upper and Middle |Middle class |Middle- lower | | | |Upper-top Class |Class. | |class. | |Price Level |Comparatively Low |Too High |High |Medium |Low medium | |Specially For |Local & foreign tourists|Local & specially |Local and foreigners |Local tourists. It involves specifying the objective of the business venture or project and identifying the internal and external factors that are favorable and unfavorable to achieving that objective. We are mentioning the SWOT analysis of new camp through a table, which will give a perfect view and in a glance all the factors can be analyze through this table: |SWOT analysis |Factors |Internal | |S (Strengths) |Ensuring quality product & services with all tourism facilities. | | |Online service facilities. | | |Affordable price within customer’s income level. | | |Administrative office locally and in the capital. | | |Providing service for both local and foreign tourists. | | |Psychological price (Ex. One is Cost leadership strategies and another is Differentiation strategies. In the following how we can implement in our business are explain briefly: Cost leadership strategies: To make our product and services competitive among the competitors we will go for the cost leadership strategies. Companies that choose a cost-leadership strategy offer relatively standardised products with features or characteristics that are acceptable to customers in other words, with a minimum level of differentiation–at the lowest competitive price. This means that companies offer standardised products to an industry's typical customer. Customers receive value when a company successfully implements a cost leadership strategy. We are going implement this strategy by following Points: †¢ Building efficient-scale facilities. †¢ Establishing tight control of production and overhead costs. †¢ Minimising the costs of sales, product research and development, and service. Differentiation strategies: We will differentiate the products someway in order to compete successfully. Like for accommodation facilities we are proving tents that really differentiate from our close competitors. We are going to implement this strategy by following some aspects: ? By cost differentiation. Same product and service in diverse form. ? Providing exceptional services. Like all the facilities means products and services in one price. Services: Here we will divide our products and services into two portions one is regular basis and special. So the packages we are going to offer here we will count it as a special for the peak season and all other services for regular basis. Services: According to our business type we categorize our service into three types. They are Couples package, Family package and Friendly package. ? Couples package: Couples package is that tent for two people with other services. This package will cost 1500 taka per day with all services.Under this p ackage normally we will offer food for breakfast, lunch, dinner and other services like party places, rest room area etc. For this package in extra we will also provide 2 round free Jet Ski rides and free movie tickets. ? Family package: Family package is that tent for four to six people with related services. For this package we decide to take 2000 taka per day. Here we will provide all the services as usual with play ground for children and 1 BBQ dinner for whole family. But we will afford a service as bonus that is free movie tickets for outdoor movie theater. ? Friendly Package: Friendly package is that tent for six to eight people. In favor of this package we will come to a decision for the cost is 2300 taka per day by provides all the services. As we are going to start the business for the first time as a bonus here also we will provide some services that are free movie tickets, free Jet Ski rides for 2 rounds, free entry to one DJ party, 1 BBQ dinner free. Additional Services: ? Breakfast – Fruits, eggs, pancakes, bread and jam, fresh juices, cold drinks, and other beverages etc. ? Lunch – Fast foods like burgers, hotdogs, French fries, sandwiches/ Indian cuisine/ Bangladeshi cuisine. ? Dinner – BBQ/ Thai cuisine/ Chinese cuisine. ? Refreshments- tea, coffee, soft drinks, mineral water, fresh fruit juice. For the purpose of recreation and excitement we will make available some other services related with tourism. Other services are: †¢ Rest room area with swimming pool †¢ Camp fire †¢ Party Space †¢ Jet skis †¢ Children’s play ground †¢ Outdoor movie theater According to our product and services we are going to provide to fulfill the need of local and foreign tourist in Cox’s Bazaar during the peak season because it is difficult to get the room services and other facilities. As it’s a new business in perspective of Bangladesh completely a new experience for our countries people specia lly. Also able to accomplish all the purpose at a time they are living, recreation, low cost facilities and new experience in comparison to other providers. That’s how make our product competitive and unique. During this time in Cox’s Bazaar people have to pay only the room service in this amount what we are going to provide in our products with other services. So in that point of view by maintaining 30% profit margin in total and these products & services competitively it is healthy situation for us. In viewpoint of Bangladesh all the time it is pretty much difficult to get the license from government to lunch a business, also transportation problems and sometimes difficult to necessary materials too. So we are hoping to face these sorts of obstacles to start out business with these products and services. Marketing & SalesHere we target people as our customers mainly college & university student, families & couples, foreigners and In focusing on the unique aspect of ou r product & service theme and customer a mix of marketing vehicles will be created to convey our presence, our image and our massage. So in the following we are showing the mediums will be use to market our product: ? Print media: We will use print media as our first choice to implement the marketing of our product. As a print media we will go to use Newspapers, Magazines and Student publications. ? Broadcast media: We will broadcast local programming and interest shows as a promotional activity through television and radio advertisement. ? Web: We will build our own website with online booking systems; other details will include contact info, package and service info and price details. ? Trade shows: We will campaign in different universities and colleges in Bangladesh.Through which we can make our product and services notorious to people. ? Miscellaneous: We will use some other intermediates for the purpose of promotion like billboards, seminars, one to one sales and leaf lets. A public relations firm has been retained to create special events and solicit print and broadcast coverage, especially at the start-up. For this purpose our budgeted cost will be 800000 Taka per year at the start. Sales Tactics: Selling and sales results are pretty clear cut: you get what you put into your sales efforts. If your employees are unhappy, or if you do little to sell your product, you’ll likely do just that: sell little of your product. So for the sales purpose of our product and service we develop the sales tactics through using the 4P of marketing. |Product: |As we are going to stat such a business that is related to tourism so our products & services are | | |designed such a way that is related to this particular industry. Most important as a tactic is the | | |things we will provide some products that are never before introduced in perspective of Bangladesh and | | |it varies from its primary competitors. So it is completely new and people will really appreciate to | | |take such initiative experience. |Place: |We will provide such facilities through our website and our administrative office they can easily make | | |sure their booking. So for these purpose we develop websites of our own and two administrative offices | | |in Dhaka as well as in Cox’s bazaar initially. | |Promotion: |For make our product aware we are using varieties of promotional activities that already motioned. We | | |will make sure known to all level of customers. | |Price: |We are going to offer such price which is really affordable for the customers in terms of locals and | | |foreigners too. That really differs from the particular competitors. | Promotion Mix:A successful product or service means nothing unless the benefit of such a service can be communicated clearly to the target market. So to make our product & service attractive we create the following promotional mix: |Types of Promotion |Explanation | |Advertising: |Here we are using non personal paid form of communication some sort of mass media like Radio, | | |Television and billboard. | |Public relations: |We will pay intimate stimulation of supply for a product & service by planting significant news | | |about it or a favorable presentation of it in the media.Like Newspaper, Magazines and Student | | |publications. | |Personal selling: |As we will selling our product one to one that is persuading one or more prospects to purchase a| | |good or service or to act on any idea through the use of an oral presentation. | |Sales promotion: |To market our product we will go for campaign in different educational institution that is Media| | |and non-media marketing communication are employed for a pre-determined, limited time to | | |increase consumer demand, stimulate market demand or improve product availability. |Internet marketing: |Also we will promote our products and services through our own website with contact info, | | |package and service info and price details. | Human R esource Plan: In contest of our business we have to operate a lot of activities to make our product & services available to the customers. To operate the whole business we need the following employees: |Post |Number of vacancy |Skills required |Roles & responsibilities |Education & experience | |Security guards |10 |Able to communicate well, |Providing safety & |Minimum class 8 with 1 year | | | |able deal with crowd people,|securities |experience. | | |must willing to work day or | | | | | |night shift. | | | |Chefs assistant |6 |Better communication |Helping cooking work , |Minimum education up to HSC | | | |abilities with customers. |serving & ordering food |with 1-2 year experience. | |Life guards |6 |Must have excellent oral and|Monitor the day-to-day |Job experience 2 years with | | | |written communication |operations of the beach, |minimum education up to HSC. | | |skills, must be familiar |Create a fun and socially | | | | |with sea beach program & |rewarding environment fo r | | | | |procedure |our Members and their Guests| | | | | |etc | | |Musicians |2 |Operate dJ instruments |Make a chill out parties.
